The Grand is thrilled to host this family friendly workshop / performance, as part of the Ribble Valley Jazz Festival, in association with Jazz North.

The HSQ Quartet present: How Monkey Found His Swing, a musical journey through the jungle, narrated by the acclaimed storyteller Ursula Holden Gill, who weaves a tale around saxophones and percussion.

This fully engaging workshop and performance encourages under 12s to interact and respond using ‘Dalcroze’ technique and dash; a process for discovering musicality through rhythmic movement, ear-training and improvisation.

How Monkey Found His Swing aims to introduce children to jazz music in a positive, entertaining fashion without dumbing down the musical content. It was premiered at the Manchester Jazz Festival in 2015 and also took place at the highly regarded family arts festival ‘Just So’ in Cheshire.
